Donations to political parties are subject to strict control.  Briefly, a party can accept payments of £500 or less from anyone, but any over £500 are classed as Donations and can only be accepted from permissible donors – typically, registered voters and most bona-fide UK based organizations.  Anonymous payments over £500 or any received from impermissible donors have to be returned or, if that is not possible, sent to the Electoral Commission.  Donations over £7500 (and any subsequent payments over £1500) have to be reported to the Electoral Commission who will publish the details.  A party is obliged to watch for donations which appear to be attempting to circumvent these rules, for example, several payments of £500 amounting to more than £7,500 in any one year.
